Bob Miller New Member. Jul 31, 2 2 3 Truck Year I've got a '15 Ram diesel. So far I've logged 86, miles since new. I've had 9 new Dodge's over the years, both gas and diesel but this is the first ecodiesel. Has anyone logged more miles than this. I've had several Cummings that have exceeded k before trading.Chrysler had been kicking around the idea of offering two diesel engines for its half-ton Ram pickup since before Cummins, Chrysler's right-hand-engine manufacturer sincethat breathes diesel, designed the two options but ultimately was not involved with the end result: the ecodiesel, which was released in However instead of the brand "Cummins" stamped on the engine block it was VM Motori, an Italian engine manufacturer that Chrysler acquired back in The product was a 3.

Several people are reporting violent shaking, as if they're losing control at legal freeway speeds. This cam gear problem, if it is indeed a problem among all ecodiesel engines, is detrimental. An engine has what's called a timing chain, which is driven off of the crankshaft and wraps around cam sprockets, so the camshafts can open and close the valves when they're supposed to.

That's why it is called a timing chain, as it ensures the timing of the valves opening and closing stays where it should. If the timing chain slips, the cams mistime, and if it happens to a harsh enough degree the engine simply won't start anymore, because valves are or will soon be hitting pistons at that point.

A mechanic will then charge thousands to rip apart the engine and reset the timing, or replace the timing chain altogether. It's been reported that when this cam gear slipping occurs it's on engines with around 70k miles, which to the average driver is about seven years give or take. There doesn't seem to be any acknowledgement from Chrysler that this is a problem.

Suffice it to say the cause of the cam gear slipping hasn't been confirmed, but there is speculation. Irate ecodiesel owners have pointed their fingers at various potential catalysts. However this user on a forum, who experienced cam gear slip in his own ecodiesel Ram, made a video showing the innards of his engine and described the culprit as the singular bolt that holds the cam gear and high pressure fuel pump gear.

This seems to serve as the only real evidence against VM's design, but other users report simply that the high-pressure fuel pump side of the engine will start to slip its timing.That had a 6 speed auto transmission. The new one has an 8 speed. This is the best transmission ever invented. I have had about 70 vehicles in my lifetime and I cannot impress upon this feature enough. Not only do I average MPG in mixed driving I don't floor the hemi very oftenbut this transmission seems to read my mind.

It is always in the right gear. My sister bought the same vehicle with a few more bells and whistles and she has hit 24mpg on the highway. Love this truck! I purchased a Sport Crew Cab and it exceeded my expectations. I've goton mine most of the miles have an Airstream, TT, boat, cargo trailer in tow sometimes with a Harley or other cargo to deliver in the bed.

At 65 mph unloaded it averages 30 mpg. Towing a typical 26' Airstream TT from Ohio to the west coast at 65 nets between The quiet smooth ride is more road compliant and handles better than any other truck but is too soft under a load without either the factory air suspension or supplementation from one of the aftermarket axle to frame air bag companies.

Still have original brakes. Truck also has optional trailer brake controller. Tune also provided some power and mileage and minimalized re circulation of EGR soot. Never had any emissions problems. Short of that its a great truck and I would buy another one.

The error codes ranged from the check engine light an glow plug symbol to messages flashing on the dash saying, battery voltage low, def system failure service needed, defrost system failure. Every time get it back works great then the issues arises. Mechanic and dealer are now claiming that the water penetration is from dirty water and this void warranty.
